Explore Abbotsbury

Easily while-away a full day in the delightful village of Abbotsbury

A view along the chesil Fleet lagoon with St Catherine's Chapel in the foreground

There's lots to do in the beautiful village of Abbotsbury, set on the world-renowned Jurassic Coast. Start with a visit to the ancient Swannery and walk through the heart of a colony of nesting mute swans. This unique natural wildlife habitat is home to the only managed colony of free-flying mute swans in the world.

Then on to the village itself where you can have lunch and explore the pretty streets of thatched cottages, shops and art galleries. Abbotsbury was once home to a richly endowed abbey and the vast tithe barn still stands, whilst some C13th and C14th remains are still visible in the churchyard. High on its own hill top sits St. Catherine’s Chapel, built in the C14th by the monks as a place of pilgrimage and retreat.
