A Purbeck Day

Spend a day in The Purbecks, including the picturesque village and eponymous castle at Corfe.

The lost village of Tyneham, abandoned since WWII

You start your day at the deserted village of Tyneham where time has stood still since it was requesitioned by the government for training during World War II. Wander the abandoned streets and visit the restored village school and church to learn about life in the village before the residents left forever.

Then on to the seaside town of Swanage where you can stroll along the prom before taking a steam train to the village of Corfe Castle with its tiny, stone-slated cottages and ruined castle. Back to Swanage then to rejoin your car and drive on to Studland to walk on the beach, maybe have a swim and visit Fort Henry where Dwight Eisenhower joined Churchill to watch preparations for D-Day.
